The Young Naturalists in 2012

Hello there everyone :) Long time, no see!

We are very pleased to announce that The Indian Point Young Naturalist Club will be offering our 9th year of summer camps for curious young campers who love to learn and experience nature this year.

So, without further ado, here is the full announcement from camp founder and director Scott Pelton:

"Hello everyone,

We are very proud to be offering three camps this summer: two in July for children ages 5 to 12 and one camp in August for older children, 12 to 15 years of age.

I do have a limited number of spaces available for junior counsellors aged 13 to 15 to help out with the younger age group camps in July. Please contact me or leave a comment here on our website for additional information.

I feel extremely lucky to have my enthusiastic and talented staff this summer returning from last year.

Camp counsellor Mikaela Law will be returning for her fifth summer camp with the Indian Point Young Naturalist Club. Mikaela is now in her final year at Sir John A. High School and is a lifeguard at the Canada Games Centre in Halifax. Next year she plans to study marine biology at Dalhousie. We are so happy to have Mikaela with us again this summer; her keen interest in scienceand nature and her love of children make her the perfect counsellor!

Returning for her second year as a camp counsellor is Arielle Legere. Arielle grew up exploring the shores of St. Margaret’s Bay and is super excited about being involved in the camps again this summer. Arielle is in her final year at Halifax Grammar School. In the fall she will using her passion for singing, dancing, song writing and acting in a yet to be determined top fine arts school in either Montreal, Toronto or New York- as long as she comes home in the summer to work for me of course! :)

Mandai Mohan will also be joining us for her second year on the Indian Point Young Naturalist Club staff. Mandai is an elementary school art teacher at Halifax Independent School and also works with the Halifax Regional School Board. She loves nature, art and children and is looking forward to bringing these passions to the camps once again this summer.

For those of you who have recently discovered our camps or our website, here is a brief summary of how The Indian Point Young Naturalist Club began. Way back in 2003 I had 2 children in my very first half day summer camp. Since then I have had over 150 children in more than 20 weeks of magic, taking place here on the shores of St. Margaret’s Bay. I look forward in continuing this magic by announcing to parents of budding young naturalists the dates of the 2012 summer camps below.

Here are the dates, times* and costs for the 9th Annual Indian Point Young Naturalist Club.

Camp 1: July 9th to 13th, 2012. Children ages 5 to 12. Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm with an option to stay to 5 pm.

Camp 2: July 23th to 27th, 2012. Children ages 5 to 12. Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm with an option to stay to 5 pm.

Camp 3: August 27th to 31th, 2012. Children ages 12 to 15. Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm with an option to stay to 5 pm.

The cost of each camp this year will be $295/camper with a 10% discount for family members and for anyone joining more than one camp.

*Please note that we are still working out the details of all the activities for the camps this summer so the exact schedule of each day of camp may change a little during the next few months while we are planning; however, the dates will not change.

I will make every effort to keep you informed of new activates and schedule changes for the camps by email or you can also check right here on our website for the latest Indian Point Young Naturalist Club news!

Please contact me at ospreys@eastlink.ca or phone me at 823-3049 to register or ask questions.

Thank you,
Scott"

We look forward to hearing from you!

Peace, Love, and Jellies,
-The IPYNC Staff
