Tuesday July 8th, 2014 Camp Schedule

Hi Everyone:

Our 11th year kicked off in fine style with lots of Sun, Swimming, Learning and FUN today :)

Tomorrow the fun continues with our annual field trip.  This year we are going to the Oak lawn Farm Zoo in Alyesford.

Below are then list of drivers and who they are taking on the filed trip and the schedule for the day.

July 7-11 Registration times and field trip on Tuesday

Hello all parents and campers of next week July 7 to 11 IPYNC summer camp! 

 

Like last year, I would like to have half the campers come at 8:30 am and the other half at 9:00 am to spread registration out.  Below is who I would like come at 8:30 am

Everyone else can come at 9 am for Monday.  If 8;30 am is not good for you, then it is ok to come at  9 am, just let me know.  Thanks.

 

The other topic I want to talk about is the camp field trip to the Oaklawn Farm Zoo on Tuesday. We will all be meeting at the Tantallon Superstore at 8 am for a Smoothie Workshop before leaving for the zoo at 9 am. We need drivers and if you can drive you children and perhaps a few of someone else’s, then let me know as soon as possible so I can get the drives all sorted out Please note for Campers picked up at 3 pm, we will be returning to the Camp at 3:30 pm on Tuesday.  Below is our  schedule:

9:00am-11:00am	Travel Time		Campers travel to Oak Lawn Zoo, eat snacks during drive.
11:00am-12:00pm	Oak Lawn Zoo Adventure		Campers tour around Oak Lawn Zoo
12:00pm-12:30pm	Lunch		Campers eat lunch at the zoo. Camera goes to Nolan.
12:30pm-1:30pm	Zoo Scavenger and Pony Rides		Campers divide into teams and do scavenger hunt and have pony rides.
1:30pm-3:30pm	Travel Time		Campers travel back from Oak Lawn Zoo
3:30-pm-4:00pm	Return to cottage and pick up		Campers travel back to the cottage. Campers not registered in after camp program are picked up.
4:00pm-5:00pm	After Camp Program		Campers in after camp program return to cottage for various activities.

 

We will be sending out the much anticipated annual newsletter, then Seastar Times, tomorrow with more details on the trip to the zoo and other activites.

Introducing the 2014 Staff!

We are very now excited to announce the staff

for the 2014 IPNYC Summer Camps.  :)

Camp founder and director, Scott Pelton would like to once again welcome all new and returning campers to the camps this year! The Indian Point Young Naturalist Club began way back in 2003 when Scott had just 2 children in the very first half-day summer camp. Since then, over 250 children have experienced more than 24 weeks of magic right here on the shores of St. Margaret’s Bay.

Mia Naylor is new to the camp this summer and is very excited to be a counsellor at the Indian Point Young Naturalist’s Club. She has recently finished her first year at the University of Toronto. She has always had a keen appreciation for science, especially biology. Mia grew up in Nova Scotia and the ocean has always been her favourite aspect of living in NS! She is greatly looking forward to being a counsellor at the IPYNC because she loves spending time outdoors and believes it is extremely important to help youth appreciate the beauty of the ocean and educate them of the important role it plays in our lives!

This year we are very excited to announce Patrick Delaporte is coming to Canada from France to work with the IPYNC! He is excited about this work, but also is seeing this as an opportunity to experience a country he's been wanting to discover. Patrick has always worked with youth, and has been a male nurse and a teacher in Northern France. Nothing could make Patrick happier than the thought of working with Canadian youth this year, and at some point, he would like to become a citizen of Canada which he sees as such a beautiful country. Patrick will bring a French touch to the camps, so anyone in French Immersion will have fun putting to use what they have learned. Patrick notices the differences of our cultures, but is sure that in those differences there is something amazing to be discovered. Patrick can not wait to be here!

Nia (Ariana) Williams is very excited to share their love for everything creative and natural with the wonderful children of the IPYNC. You may remember Nia as a volunteer last year, but now she is looking forward to being a daily part of the program bringing lots of great new crafting ideas. Aside from creativity and a sense of wonder for all of life, Nia has found her calling as a Thai Yoga Massage Therapist and a budding yoga teacher.  Nia is so happy to be working with you all this summer!!

The IPYNC has been blessed with many great camp counselors of the years.  Sadly we’ve had to say goodbye to two of them this summer.   Mikaela Law and Arielle Leger have decided, after many dedicated and fun years with us, to move on with their careers. Mikaela is perusing a biology degree at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax.  Arielle has graduated from American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City and is spending a much deserved summer traveling around the States visiting friends.  On behalf of all us who had the pleasure to know Mikaela and Arielle here at the IPYNC, we wish them all the success in the future and offer an invitation for them to come back and see us anytime.
